Ephemera from the Desert [Part 3]
Those bright, technicolor lights
linger for a very long time,
illuminated, glittering points
on the horizon. It is a kind of darkness
beyond midnight, and as we pass
through the desert, our unending
conversation keeps us focused,
alert; still it takes longer than I
imagine to reach our destination.
I am completely unprepared for
the scale of our surroundings… the
luminous, powerful glow of neon
24/7--even though I am a return
visitor to this place. So we settle
into our exceptionally lush dwelling,
into our own version of the world: life
on a smaller scale (on our own terms).
So late that it's early, we sleep entwined
as the Silver City shines on.
