(Interstate 94; Michigan)
We drive on, toward
unknown horizons. The
sky is the same muted
light gray we have grown
accustomed to after nearly
a week of rain. The trees,
however, are so vibrant
that they may as well be on
fire, set aflame. The color
is astonishing--orange, gold,
red, green; copper hues and
jewel tones, a veritable
masterpiece. In a matter of
weeks, the landscape will
shift into shades of cold and
endless white. We soak it
all in: the scenery in transition,
the sparkling effervescence,
the road ahead.
